Mayhem in Karachi

Blood is being spilled on the streets of Karachi, while the elected coalition wants to buy time before action is initiated against these criminals, most of them affiliated with political parties that claim exclusive rights over this city.

All that has happened is a sickening chorus of condemnation by all those who matter in this country, while more people are being gunned down mercilessly. This has been going on with more ferocity and at regular intervals ever since last three years. It was also happening during the tenure of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf junta with his tacit support and protection, but the frequency of this violence was less.

More than 60 Pakistani citizens have been murdered since 16 October, but as yet no concrete action has been taken to nab these criminals. Politics has overridden the value for human life in the eyes of this government. In the meantime enough time has been given to these murderers to go in hiding, secure their weapons, before the law enforcement agencies mount a dummy operation.

There seems to be a cannibalistic instinct within some in this coalition government, for whom human sacrifice is essential for survival of their version of democracy and establish their own version of writ in this city. It is a battle for turf in Karachi and force is an essential instrument to spread terror. At stake are billions that are made and than transferred to foreign countries, where the urban warlords live with their family members and maintain their assets.

In the process Karachi has gained the notoriety of being the most dangerous city in Asia. Those who are responsible for this mayhem have nothing at stake, because they have already abandoned not only Karachi, but also Pakistan.
