ISLAMABAD - Despite an alarming energy deficit, the production of Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) grew by 1.03 percent during the first seven months of the current year compared to the same period last year.
The overall Quantum Index Numbers (QIN) of LSM stood at 200.63 points during July-January (2010-11) as compared to 198.59 points in July-January (2010-11) last year, according to data of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

Terrorism claimed 7,435 lives last year, says Individualland report
KARACHI - Total 7,435 people lost their lives because of terrorism in 2010, a recent report issued by Individualland has revealed. The report stated that 1,796 civilians, 469 security personnel and 5,170 terrorists were killed in terror incidents last year.

ISLAMABAD - Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha has secured a year's extension in his service, as President Asif Ali Zardari signed Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's proposal on the matter on Thursday. Sources said the president had signed Gilani's summary wherein he recommended a year's extension in Pasha's service. ISLAMABAD - Around 2.1 million children are born with mental disorders each year because of iodine deficiency in pregnant women in Pakistan. According to health experts, iodine deficiency in the mother leads to stillbirth, miscarriage and birth of children with mental disorders, lack of cognitive abilities and congenital abnormalities like deafness, dumbness and stunted growth.
