Pakistan and Afghanistan discuss transit trade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan held talks on Friday for finalising implementation procedures for installing tracking system, biometric system and establishing bank guarantee system and other international requirements for the start of Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA).

Sindh govt taxes Pak-Afghan Transit Trade

KARACHI - For the first time Sindh government has imposed tax on the goods to be traded under the recently signed Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement, it has been reliably learnt. The new levy will be collected at the rate of 0.5 percent of the value of the consignment as the Infrastructure Cess, to be charged on the export/imports of PATTA goods from Karachi by air or by sea, well-placed sources told Pakistan Today.

NAB arrests mass transit system project accused

LAHORE - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab on Monday arrested Danish Shamshad involved in the Lahore Mass Transit System Project reference from the accountability courts' premises. Danish is son and bona fide beneficiary of key accused Shamshad Gulzar who embezzled Rs 401.155 million from funds allocated for the Lahore Mass Transit System Project. NAB arrested him with permission of the accountability court.

LAHORE - Former National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi was handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Karachi on a three-day transit remand on Thursday by Duty Magistrate Ahtisham Sadiq.

Russia set to allow NATO armoured vehicles’ transit

BRUSSELS: Russia is expected to let NATO take armoured vehicles to Afghanistan through its territory under an expanded transit deal that would reduce reliance on more risky routes in Pakistan, NATO diplomats said on Wednesday.
Alliance leaders and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev are also expected at a NATO summit in Lisbon next week to complete a deal on the supply of Russian helicopters for the Afghan armed forces and to step up training in fighting drugs trafficking.
