Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan push for four-nation trade pact
BISHKEK - Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday agreed on reviving the four-country transit trade pact and making it effective in a bid to strengthen regional economic cooperation. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and his Kyrgyz counterpart Almazbek Atambaev, following a round of formal talks, agreed to remove obstacles for smooth and effective functioning of 'Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement' (QTTA) signed between Pakistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in 2004.

ISLAMABAD - Negotiation between Pakistan and China on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concluded yesterday with special onus placed on reducing Pakistan's trade deficit in bilateral trade and tariff concessions to each other. The first phase of the FTA between the two countries will conclude on 31 December, 2012 and respective organisations of both governments have begun negotiations to finalise modalities for the second phase which would be implemented from January 2013.

SRINAGAR - Traders in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) have suspended cross Line of Control (LoC) trade for the next two weeks due to unnecessary harassment by Indian Commercial Tax Department. Per details, over 30 traders involved in cross LoC trade said in a statement issued after a meeting in Poonch that they had decided to suspend their activities for two weeks to protest against the Commercial Tax Department.

Bangladesh trade deficit widens sharply
DHAKA - Bangladesh's overall trade deficit in the first half of the current fiscal year (July 2010- June 2011) widened to over $3.447 billion, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
