R&B singer Chris Brown, dogged in recent years by a domestic violence conviction, scored his first No. 1 album on the US pop chart Wednesday with one of the best sales weeks of his career. Brown sold 270,000 copies of 'F.A.M.E.' during the week ended March 27, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His previous album, 'Graffiti,' released in the wake of a physical confrontation with then-girlfriend Rihanna, debuted at a disappointing No. 7 in December 2009 with 102,000 units.

Japan quake death toll climbs to 10,000
OSAKA - The death toll from a massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan's northeast coast topped 10,000 on Friday, two weeks after the disaster struck, the National Police Agency said.
