Campaign starts for ‘preordained’ Kazakh polls
ASTANA - The campaign started Thursday for Kazakhstan's presidential election with a victory by strongman President Nursultan Nazarbayev so certain he has decided not even to bother campaigning. Nazarbayev, whose rule over Kazakhstan dates to before its independence from the Soviet Union, faces a challenge from only three relatively obscure candidates in the April 3 polls.

Karachi - Acting on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has started razing illegal structures - including libraries and union council offices - built on the city's parks. A special operation started on Wednesday and would continue until the razing of constructions at 164 listed parks of city.

KARACHI - The Department of International Relations of the University of Karachi (KU) has organised the third SAARC Simulation Exercise, in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation Islamabad, from today (Monday) till March 3.

Danish food company starts Pakistani dates import
ISLAMABAD - Leading Danish Food Company Castus has commenced import of Pakistani dates from southern of Pakistan to produce healthy fruit bars for children in Denmark. It plans to import around 800 tonnes of dates each year with a total value of $650,000. This is the first time that Pakistan will be exporting dates to Denmark and it aims to develop a new niche for Pakistani products on the Danish market.

LAHORE - Participants of the consultative workshop on "Formulation of National Policy for Home-Based Workers" on Friday discussed draft of the National Policy on Home-Based Workers and agreed to go ahead with it at the national level. Water level in Attabad Lake starts to fall
HUNZA - Water level in Attabad Lake, at Gojal valley, has started receding at about 7 inches per hour after Frontier Works Organization (FWO)'s detonation of the blocked spillway of Hunza river. Water has gone down by around 3.5 feet since opening of the spillway on Sunday.
A scale has been fixed near the lake to measure water level. Lower parts of the Gojal valley were dammed because of blockade of the river, as a result of Attabad landslide disaster that killed 19 persons
