Rupee goes from strength to strength

KARACHI - The Pakistani Rupee has continued to gain strength against US dollar as the intraday interbank rate reached Rs 84.0 per dollar, the lowest level since April 28, 2010. The rupee has so far appreciated by 1.8 percent in the current fiscal year, while it has beefed up by 2.7 percent since its recent low on September 30, 2010 (Rs 86.33 per dollar).

Rupee appreciates against the Greenback

KARACHI - The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) has achieved some gains, as it's exchange rate has appreciated one percent against the US dollar since January 2011, taking PKR to a 10-month high. This was triggered by a firm current account balance and sound foreign exchange reserves.
Any major fluctuations in the PKR and US dollar parity in the short term is not expected; while the Pakistani currency may weaken in the medium term, said Saad Khan at AHL.

Rupee firms to 11-month high, stocks end lower

KARACHI - The Pakistani rupee gained on Tuesday to end near an eleven-month high, amid a lack of import payments and continuous healthy dollar inflows, dealers said.
The rupee closed at 84.43/53 to the dollar, compared with Monday's close of 84.72/78, its highest close since May last year.
"There were no oil payments, therefore there was less demand for the dollar," said a dealer at a foreign bank, adding that oil payments may start from next week.

Pakistani stocks end down; rupee firms

KARACHI - Thin trade and cautious investors pushed Pakistani stocks down on Friday as traders awaited the monetary policy announcement, due the next day, dealers said.
Analysts expect the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to leave the key policy rate unchanged at 14 percent in its monetary policy for the subsequent two months.
The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) benchmark 100-share index ended 0.10 percent, or 11.33 points, lower at 11,552.92 on turnover of 66.39 million shares.

KARACHI: Stocks fell on Thursday as the corporate result season had almost ended and investors awaiting the outcome of meetings between International Monetary Fund and Pakistani officials.
IMF and Pakistani authorities are meeting in Islamabad to discuss the possible release of the sixth tranche of an $11 billion emergency loan agreed in November 2008. The KARACHI Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index ended 0.65 percent, or 69.17 points, lower at 10,634.99.
