SC appoints mediator on Canal Road widening
ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Monday deputed Pervaiz Hassan, an eminent lawyer, as a mediator to settle the issue of widening of Canal Road , Lahore and asked him to submit the report within one month. A four-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday was hearing a suo motu case on chopping of trees in the provincial metropolis in order to widen Canal Road.

Two youths killed in road accident
MURIDKE - Two youngsters, including a son of a renowned trade leader, died in a road accident here on GT Road near Muridke. Reportedly, a 10th class student, Rana Daud son of Markzi Anjuman Tajiran Muridke Chairman Rana Ansar Mehmood, was going to Canal Park with his class fellow Usman alias Shani on a motorcycle when a Gujranwala-bound speeding car hit them, injuring them seriously.

Two killed in separate road accidents
MURIDKE - A youth and an elderly man were killed in separate road accidents in Muridke.
In the first accident, a tractor-trailer crushed five-year-old Noshki near Muridke Railway Station when she was playing in a street.
Muridke police are conducting raids to arrest the driver who left the scene after the incident. In the second accident, a 60-year-old man was killed after falling down from a speedy motorcycle-rickshaw while going to Manoonabad from Muridke.

LAHORE - Severe traffic jams were witnessed on all adjoining roads to the Main Circular Road due to the fire, which erupted at the Shah Alam Market on Monday. Commuters were irked by the situation, which also affected the Walled City. MIRPURKHAS - Nine passengers were killed, while 30 others including women and children were seriously injured in road accident when a speedy passenger bus fell in deep ditch at Babo stop on late night of Sunday. Police said that passenger bus was going to Diplo from Mithi and suddenly it fell in deep ditch.

LAHORE - The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) have stopped action against removal of more than 50 unauthorised road cuts traced out on various roads, Pakistan Today has learnt.

DPDC permits road commercialisation
LAHORE - District Planning and Design Committee has allowed commercial activities on 37 roads situated in the Lahore Development Authority's administrative area, besides notifying 24 roads where commercialisation has not been permitted.

LAHORE - On the 5th of January, Haji Maqbool Ahmad (63), of Engineers Town, was reading a newspaper on his terrace when a stray bullet hit him in the back and he died instantly.
