Kuala Lumpur - Fourth-seeded Jarmila Groth of Australia beat Misaki Doi Thursday to book a berth in the Malaysian Open quarterfinals but third-seeded Alisa Kleybanova was knocked out by 150th-ranked Michaella Krajicek. Krajicek of the Netherlands overcame an early setback to upset her Russian opponent 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Dokic battles into Malaysian quarters

KUALA LUMPUR - Former world number four Jelena Dokic was forced to recover from a set down to beat Kurumi Nara in WTA's BMW Malaysian Open. Dokic overcame six service breaks in a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win over Nara to reach the quarterfinals.

DOHA - The cull of seeded players continued in Doha with Francesca Schiavone and Shahar Peer crashing out of the WTA Qatar Open in one-sided matches here on Wednesday. Italian Schiavone, the third seed, became the biggest casualty yet at the tournament when she was ousted by China's Peng Shuai 7-5, 6-3 in the second round, while the eighth-seeded Peer, who had beaten two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kusnetsova on Tuesday, was thrashed by Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-1, 6-0.

Top seed Verdasco reaches San Jose quarters

SAN JOSE: Top seed and defending champion Fernando Verdasco advanced to the quarter-finals of the $600,000 ATP SAP Open with a 7-5, 7-5 victory Thursday over Croatian Ivo Karlovic.
Karlovic blasted 14 aces but Verdasco won the only two break points of the match, the last in the 11th game, taking the 27-year-old Spaniard into a last-eight encounter Friday against Uzbek fifth seed Denis Istomin.

Tsonga reaches Rotterdam quarters

ROTTERDAM - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won an all-French match Wednesday to book the first of the quarter-final places at the ATP Rotterdam Open as he defeated compatriot Michael Llodra 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Llodra, the 2008 champion, has now lost all three of his matches with 2008 Australian open finalist Tsonga.

Junior Squash Championship reaches quarters

LAHORE - The Punjab National Junior Squash Championship 2011 reached the quarter-final stage here on Friday. The event will have its finals played on February 7 at the Punjab Squash Complex. On Friday, the main round matches started, with President Punjab Squash Association Malik Amjad Ali Noon opening the round. The day started with some of the first round matches.
Another 46 matches were decided in under-11 to 19 different age categories of boys and girls.

DOHA - South Korea will take on Iran in a mouth-watering quarter-final Asian Cup showdown after they dispatched India 4-1 Tuesday, but Australia topped the group to enter the last eight by defeating Bahrain.
The Socceroos will likely play reigning champions Iraq, also Saturday, for a place in the semi-finals in Doha. The current holders need just a point from their final group game against North Korea on Wednesday to make it through.

LAHORE - Bihar became the eighth and last team to enter the last eight round, as two more league matches were decided in the PFF-KESC Lyari Football League 2011 at Shaheed Abdul Rehman Park.
