BOP arranges wheat procurement
LAHORE - The Bank of Punjab (BOP) has arranged financing for wheat procurement on behalf of Government of Punjab since 2003. As a result of personal interest taken by Punjab chief minister, efforts towards food self sufficiency have gathered pace. Last year, the Bank of Punjab, under directive of Chief Minister Punjab arranged financing of Rs 51 Billion through a consortium of Private Commercial as well as Islamic banks.

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the provincial cabinet at Chief Minister's Secretariat on Saturday that gave approval to the Wheat Procurement Policy 2011, Parks and Horticulture Authority Act 2010, Punjab Semen Quality Control Act 2010 and amendment in Punjab Entertainment Duty Act 1958.

Wheat procurement campaign to begin from April 17
SAHIWAL - The Punjab government will start wheat procurement campaign in the province from 17th of next month during which 3.5 million metric tons wheat will be procured mainly from small farmers to ensure financial benefits to them. During this campaign, 423,000 metric tons wheat will be procured from Sahiwal division, including 171,000 tons from district Sahiwal, 160000 from Okara and 92000 metric ton from district Pakpattan.

Rs 165b credit for wheat procurement
ISLAMABAD - The government has decided to extend a guarantee of Rs 165 billion credit needed for this year's wheat procurement target of 6.57 million tonnes, but the guarantee is subject to the availability of credit to be provided by commercial banks, an official source said.

‘Supervisory teams to monitor wheat procurement’
LAHORE - Punjab Food Minister Abdul Ghafoor announced formation of supervisory teams at district, tehsil and union council levels to monitor wheat procurement campaign in the province. He said that payment of Rs 950 per 40 kg of wheat will be ensured to cultivators. The minister further said that an officer of BPS 17 will be appointed to resolve farmers' problems regarding procurement of each purchase centre of wheat.

KARACHI - The International Growth Center (IGC) is implementing a research project on improving the efficiency of public procurement in Sindh and for this purpose a research team of the center will visit the Governors Secretariat, shortly.

Punjab eyes wheat procurement in April
LAHORE - Punjab Food Secretary Irfan Elahi has stated that all arrangements have been finalised to kick start the annual wheat procurement campaign in April. He informed that the provincial government had fixed the wheat procurement target at 3.5 million tonnes. For this purpose, 376 procurement centers are to be established in different parts of the Punjab. These procurement centers could be enhanced according to the requirement, he added.

KARACHI - Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim (FFBL) has awarded a contract of independent 7MGD water line commissioning to a highest bidder in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules. It has been learnt that a letter of intimation over this violation of rules by the FFBL was written to Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani by a local construction company seeking his intervention over the violation of public procurement rules by FFBL in the said project.
