Lawyer seeks proceedings against judge for ordering Davis’ release

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court’s inspection team member (MIT) sent on Thursday an application to the chief justice, seeking proceedings against Additional District and Sessions judge Muhammad Yousaf Aojla for releasing CIA contractor Raymond Davis in double murder of two Pakistanis.
The MIT referred the case to chief justice in response to an application filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey who accused AD&SJ Aojla of acquitting Davis in an unusual manner and against the rules.

LHC adjourns proceedings on president’s dual office case

LAHORE – A full bench of Lahore High Court adjourned proceedings on petitions challenging President Asif Ali Zardari’s dual offices for one day. The bench was hearing detailed arguments of the petitioner counsel AK Dogar who will continue arguing his case on Tuesday against Zardari as court time ended on Monday.

Asian Winter Games – Kazakhstan dominate proceedings

ALMATY – Hosts’ Kazakhstan dominated the day’s action at the Asian Winter Games on Thursday adding four gold medals to their impressive collection to stay on top with 17 golds and 46 medals overall. South Korea failed to add to their gold haul, but remain in second place with 10 gold and 24 medals overall.
Meanwhile, Japan stayed in the race for the lead in the medal table with their skiers winning two gold medals to lift their country into third position with eight golds.

SC reserves verdict on contempt proceedings against PCO judges, generals

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on whether it could initiate contempt proceedings against PCO judges and the army generals involved in the promulgation of November 3, 2007 emergency in the country in defiance of a seven-member Supreme Court bench’s restraining order.
