Sugar output estimate hiked up to 4.1 mln tonnes
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan is estimated to have produced 4.1 million tonnes of sugar from the 2010/11 crop, industry officials said on Wednesday, adding there was no need to import the sweetener this year, given ample stocks.
The new estimate is up nearly 400,000 tonnes from the previous projection despite initial fears that output would fall because of massive summer floods in 2010 that damaged several crops, including sugarcane.

OPEC not to increase crude output
TEHRAN - Iranian Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi said that the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will not increase its crude output.

Cotton output falls by 8.7pc
KARACHI - Cotton output, up till March 15, has declined by an annual 8.7 percent, standing at 11.57 million bales compared to 12.68 million bales in the corresponding period last year, figures released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) revealed. Cotton output increased by an annual 165 percent and reached 72,000 bales. Punjab has contributed 67 percent (7.78 million bales) in total cotton arrived so far, while Sindh has contributed 33 percent (3.79 million bales)

Sugar output estimated at 3.4m tonnes
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's sugarcane crushing season is likely to draw to a close with the production of 3.4 million tonnes of sugar and the country is not likely to face any sugar crisis as high prices have reduced consumption of sugar.
