No fuel subsidies planned for summer: minister

KUWAIT - Pakistan will not be able to afford subsidies on fuel this summer and much of the rising oil price burden will have to be shifted to the consumer, Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar told Reuters.
"Pakistan has not yet recovered from the 2008 oil price rise and we have no planned subsidies for the summer months because we can't afford it," Qamar told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting in Kuwait.

KARACHI - Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq has ordered the authorities concerned to rub out the dictatorial mindset from the National Textbooks and Learning Policy 2007. He gave the directives at a meeting held to review the work plan for improving the quality of textbooks at the office of Reform Support Unit of the Education Department on April 16.

Egypt refers former PM, finance minister to court

CAIRO - Egypt will put on trial the former prime minister and his finance minister on charges of profiteering and squandering public funds, the public prosecutor's office said on Sunday. No date has yet been set for the trial.
But the military generals ruling Egypt since pro-democracy protests ousted president Hosni Mubarak in February are keen to show they are committed to holding to account members of the previous government, which many Egyptians saw as steeped in graft.
