Bhutto reference lacks specific question of law: SC
ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Thursday pointed out that no question of law to meet the requirement of Article 186 was framed in the presidential reference for revisiting the death sentence of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, directing Babar Awan, the federation's lawyer, to assist the court over relevant questions of law to revisit the ZAB case.

Govt told to appoint new law minister for JC moot
ISLAMABAD - Following Dr Babar Awan's resignation as federal law minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry asked the government on Thursday to fill the vacant ministerial slot to ensure that the Law Ministry was represented at the Judicial Commission (JC)'s meeting on Saturday. ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan presented his resignation in the Supreme Court on Wednesday to appear as a lawyer in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's reference case.
"I prefer this case to my portfolio as the minister," Babar replied to Pakistan's Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry when asked he (Awan) couldn't pursue the case as a minister.

SC orders HEC to keep operating until amendment in law
ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Higher Education Commission (HEC) to restore all its privileges and to keep operating until the amendment in the law prevails.
The court was hearing petitions against dissolution of the HEC.

Legislature must act if executive doesn’t comply with law: CJP
ISLAMABAD - If the executive does not comply with the law, the legislature must take action against arbitrary non-compliance, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said on Saturday. LHC allows law ministry to inspect Bhutto case record
