PESHAWAR - President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday appointed Barrister Syed Masood Kausar as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor on the advice of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Barrister Kausar is likely to assume the office after taking oath on Thursday (tomorrow).
He will replace Owais Ahmad Ghani, who assumed the office in May 2007. Masood is amongst a few civilians to be posted against the highly sensitive office in the country as mostly former military generals remained governor

Car bomb kills three in Khyber
PESHAWAR - A bomb planted in a car exploded on Saturday killing three passengers and injuring two pedestrians in Khyber Agency, officials said. The bomb, which was on a timer, exploded in a moving car at Barqambarkhel village, they said.
"Three people were killed and two pedestrians were wounded when a time bomb planted in a car exploded," Khyber's top administrative official Shafirullah Khan told AFP.

Girls’ school blown up in Khyber Agency
PESHAWAR - Some unidentified armed men blew up a girls' school on Monday in Khyber Agency. Khyber Agency's administration said the armed men planted explosives in the girls' school in Landi Kotal, Sub-Division of Khyber Agency and added that the explosion damaged three rooms and the boundary wall of the school. PESHAWAR - An oil tanker carrying fuel for NATO troops in Afghanistan has been gutted after a bomb planted in the vehicle exploded in Khyber Agency, officials said.

First-ever drone strike in Khyber kills 7 suspects
PESHAWAR: In the first ever drone attack in Khyber Agency, a US unmanned aircraft targeted a vehicle in Speen Drang area of Bara tehsil's Tirah valley on Thursday, killing seven suspected militants, tribal officials said.
The officials said a US drone fired a missile at a pick-up truck carrying seven suspected militants.
"The militants were said to be members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and were from Waziristan and Swat areas," a security official said.

PESHAWAR: Four people, including three security personnel, were killed and seaveral others injured when militants attacked a security convoy in Khyber Agency on Wednesday.
