LAHORE - Senior Supreme Court Judge Javed Iqbal's father and mother were murdered on Tuesday in mysterious circumstances at their Cavalry Grounds home, by hitherto unidentified burglars, possibly for resisting them, the city police chief Aslam Tareen told Pakistan Today. The judge's elderly parents were identified as retired police DIG-turned-homeopath Abdul Hameed and his wife Amna, residents of House No 164, Street No 7, Cavalry Grounds, Lahore, where Mr Hameed ran a small clinic.

ISLAMABAD - A constitutional petition, challenging the new procedure for appointments of SC ad-hoc judges under the 19th Amendment Act 2010 was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

ISLAMABAD - SM Zafar, lawyer for PCO judge Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain, on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that all objectives could be achieved through the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) under Article 209, thus the court should not have issued contempt of court notices to PCO judges, adding that the constitution scheme should be respected. ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms (PCCR) has included a new clause into Article 68 of the constitution to empower the parliamentary committee on appointment of judges to discuss the conduct of a judge, Pakistan Today has reliably learnt.

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee on judges' appointment could not reach a consensus on Wednesday on the Judicial Commission of Pakistan's nominations for the chief justice and other two judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). IHC starts working without judges today
ISLAMABAD: The re-established Islamabad High Court (IHC) will start partial functioning today (Monday) by beginning admitting cases, a senior official of the Law Ministry told Pakistan Today on Sunday.
He said the IHC staff was already working since the last two months, whereas over 1,600 cases had also been shifted from Islamabad district courts to the IHC.

SC hears contempt cases against PCO judges today
ISLAMABAD: The newly constituted four-member bench of the Supreme Court will hear toady (Monday) contempt charges against the superior courts' former judges who took oath under the PCO in November 2007. The bench comprises Justice Mahmood Akhtar Shahid Siddiqui, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez. Besides counsels for the PCO judges, Attorney General Moulvi Anwarul Haq will also appear before the bench on notice.
