KARACHI: The Sindh government has acquired 20,000 acres of land in Thatta and Badin to set up crab and shrimp farms - a plan aimed at consolidating the dwindling fishing industry, which is suffering due to a ban on fish imports from Pakistan, and helping fishermen capitalise on market opportunities in Karachi.

Govt notifies lifting of ban on wheat exports
ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday notified lifting of the ban on the export of wheat and wheat products through an amendment in the imports and exports control act. The Ministry of Commerce notified changes in the Export Policy Order 2009 allowing exports of wheat and wheat products after a gap of three years.

Govt planning to end domination of Japanese automakers
ISLAMABAD: The government is considering on a plan which, if finalised, would end the domination of Japanese players in the local automobile sector and pave the way for entry of leading European, Korean and Chinese auto manufacturers into the country. According to official sources, the plan devised by the Engineering Development Board, a subsidiary organisation of Ministry of Industries, is held up due to the pressure exerted by Japan, which is one of the major donors to the country.

LAHORE: After teachers and students, farmers would be the next target of the Punjab government, former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Saturday.
He made these remarks while chairing a meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Nankana chapter office bearers at the PML House. Elahi said that while people were dying of hunger, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif was ruthlessly using the government machinery to silence the voices of the oppressed.
