Hydroelectric generation increases by 3.2b units

LAHORE - The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has generated 3.2 billion additional units of hydroelectricity during the period July 2010 to March 2011 compared with the corresponding period of last year. This increased generation was triggered by greater water availability in reservoirs, in addition to efficient operation and management of hydropower stations, said a press release issued by WAPDA.

KARACHI - After a broad improvement in the first half of FY11 (July to December 2010), Pakistan's ratio power tariff relative to generation costs has weakened considerably. Govt to milk dormant gas fields for power generation

KARACHI - With the transfer of gas fields to provinces, the Sindh government has decided to generate electricity through gas-based thermal power plants from small or dormant gas fields in the province, it has been learnt.
