Kidnapper killed in encounter; abductees freed

KARACHI - The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) rescued two kidnapped men from Khuda Ki Basti, North Karachi on Friday after an encounter with the alleged kidnappers. One of the kidnappers was killed in the operation while two of his accomplices managed to escape, said AVCC DSP Irfan. The two kidnapped students named Saad and Sheharyar were kidnapped on January 18 from the jurisdiction of New Town police.

US reiterates it wants Davis freed

ISLAMABAD - The US on Sunday reiterated its demand for the immediate release of Raymond Davis, currently detained in Lahore for killing two Pakistani citizens who attacked him, saying he was a member of the US embassy's technical and administrative staff, which made him entitled to diplomatic immunity.
