Former NICL chairman shifted to Lahore

LAHORE: Former National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) chairman Ayaz Khan Niazi was shifted to Lahore from Karachi on Saturday. Niazi was under the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Lahore's custody and would soon be presented in court.
According to details, FIA had already recovered Rs 1 billion from NICL scam accused Mohsin Habib Warraich and the Supreme Court had ordered shifting Niazi to Lahore.

Former British MP admits expenses fraud at Old Bailey

LONDON: Former Labour MP David Chaytor became the first politician to receive a criminal conviction over last year's parliamentary expenses scandal when he admitted on Friday to fraudulently claiming almost 20,000 pounds.
Chaytor, 61, who had been MP for Bury North, had claimed back money he had paid in rent for houses that were in fact owned by himself and by his mother, and also put in false claims for IT services.

ISLAMABAD: Former Haj Director General Rao Shakeel was sent to jail on Sunday on a 14-day judicial remand.
FIA officials produced Shakeel in Judicial Duty Magistrate Malik Naeem Shaukat's court after completing his physical remand.
On a request by the FIA officials, the duty magistrate ordered that Shakeel be sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

PARIS: A French judge questioned former prime minister Dominique de Villepin on Thursday about corruption allegations linked to the deaths of 11 French engineers in a Pakistani bombing in 2002.

LAHORE: Former haj director general (DG) Rao Shakeel Ahmad was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Punjab in Lahore on Saturday. Earlier, a first information report was registered against Shakeel in the FIA headquarters in Islamabad. Shakeel was arrested on a request by the Interior Ministry. He is accused of embezzling Rs 1 billion on renting apartments for pilgrims' residence at high rates. The former haj DG was suspended a few days ago.
