Nisar slams European ‘interference’ in internal affairs

ISLAMABAD - Condemning European Parliament's demand for pardoning Aasia Bibi, Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said that it was an interference in the country's internal affairs.
Nisar said instead of poking nose into Pakistan's internal matters, the West should take up the issues like blasphemy, desecration of the Holy Quran, abolishing of mosque minarets and banning of veil.

European stocks stable before holidays

LONDON: Europe's main stock markets changed little on Thursday, ahead of the Christmas break, as investors assessed modest overnight gains on Wall Street and a mixed performance in Asia. London's FTSE 100 rose 0.16 percent to 5,993.17 points with the energy sector boosted as oil prices forged two-year highs this week. Elsewhere, the Paris CAC 40 retreated 0.31 percent to 3,907.66 points while Frankfurt's DAX 30 index edged up 0.06 percent to 7,072.70 points.

Roman Polanski wins best European picture award

Roman Polanski's political thriller "The Ghost Writer" has won the prize for best film at the European Film Awards. Polanski's movie also is the winner in five other key European Film Academy categories, including best director and best actor for Ewan McGregor. Euro stays weak as European debt worries linger

TOKYO: The euro stayed under pressure against other currencies in Asia on Thursday as investors remained wary of euro zone debt problems, dealers said.
A stocks rally led by positive US data on Wednesday took the sting out of recent concern over sovereign debts in Ireland and other European nations as well as tensions on the Korean peninsula.
