Health Ministry moves against spurious drugs

ISLAMABAD - On the directives of National Assembly Standing Committee on Health, Ministry of Health here on Friday conducted a crackdown against spurious drugs and cancelled registration of 283 drugs and rejected application for 17 others.
A decision to this effect was taken in the 230th meeting of the ministry's Drugs Registration Board a few days back. These drugs were found either substandard, adulterated or not in conformity with the Drugs Act 1976.

NA body directs banning certain sex drugs

ISLAMABAD - National Assembly Standing Committee on Health on Friday asked the Ministry of Health to remove the entire stoke of unregistered tranquilisers and other drugs used for sexual amusement from the market. The committee, in its meeting held with Dr Nadeem Ehsan in the chair, was informed that these drugs were easily available because the former health minister had given the illegal quota of raw material in huge quantity to produce such medicines.

66,000 drugs registered under Drug Act 1976

ISLAMABAD - As much as 66,000 drugs have been registered in the country by December 2010, 55,000 of them as active drugs, under Drug Act 1976. QUETTA - The Anti Narcotics Force has recovered a large quantity of hidden drugs from Pak-Afghan border area.

KABUL: Afghan President Hamid Karzai reacted with fury Sunday to the first joint US-Russian anti-drugs operation in the war-torn country, saying it happened without permission and violated Afghan sovereignty.
