ISLAMABAD - In an ironic gift to the already struggling nation, the government on Friday night jacked up POL prices by up to 9.2 percent. Resultantly, POL prices will shoot up by between Rs 4.04 and Rs 7.69 per litre with effect from today, January 1, 2011.

LSE adds value, volume drops
LAHORE - The Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) remained range-bound on Monday with a significant decline in volume. The LSE-25 shares gained 9.06 points to close at 3,680.90 against its opening at 3,671.84 levels.
The volume of the market was at 2.6 million shares, which is 2.68 million shares less than Friday's turnover of 5.29 million shares. Out of 130 active scrips, 40 went up, 17 declined and 73 showed no change in their opening values. Lotte Pakistan PTA was the volume leader

KSE momentum drops during the week
KARACHI: The KSE index augmented 92 points during the short week, just before Eid, while the average volume stayed over 69 million shares. Following Eid holidays, investors and traders were initially inexorable as the index registered a gain of 240 points at pace.
However, the energetic bull suddenly lost substantial energy as the index was unable to sustain its level whereas profit taking by investors resulted in a loss of 70 points before Friday's minor gain of nine points.

Afghan govt drops charges against Karzai aide
KABUL: The Afghan government has dropped corruption charges against a top aide to President Hamid Karzai who was indicted by a US-backed task force for taking a bribe, an official said Tuesday.
Mohammad Zia Salehi, a senior official in Karzai's National Security Council, was arrested by the Major Crimes Task Force, a US-funded anti-graft body, in July after he was caught on a wiretap soliciting a bribe.
