KHARTOUM - Sudanese security services on Thursday arrested prominent government critic Mariam al-Mahdi, daughter of the premier whom President Omar al-Bashir ousted in a 1989 coup, as a crackdown on the opposition gathered pace. Mahdi was arrested in Khartoum as she went with a group of activists to petition the security forces for the release of protesters detained nearly two weeks ago, a member of her Umma party said.

SC orders crackdown on fraud housing schemes
LAHORE - A full bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Punjab Housing secretary to crackdown on bogus housing societies which were looting people, as there was no mechanism to monitor such schemes.
The bench directed that Lahore Development Authority (LDA) must ensure, before sanctioning approval to any housing scheme, that its roads, passages, and thoroughfares gave access to public.

LAHORE - Lahore Police registered around 680 FIRs against the violators of ban on pillion riding and impounded over 4500 bikes during 9th and 10 of Muharram.
An official of Lahore Police said that ban on pillion riding was imposed by the Punjab Government on 9, 10 Muharram. Lahore Police in order to implement ban, mounted pickets at different points in the provincial metropolis and impounded over 4500 bikes.

Five people, including three doctors are involved in illegal sale of kidneys, Punjab Executive District Officer Health Dr Fayyaz Ranjha told the media on Thursday.
