Pakistan, China to name 2011 as ‘year of friendship’
ISLAMABAD - The Foreign Ministry approved a comprehensive plan on Friday to observe 2011 as a 'year of friendship' between Pakistan and China and both countries will celebrate the year at leadership, government, business and public level.
The year also marks the 16th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

TOKYO - Japan should discuss a free trade deal with China while improving diplomatic ties through ministerial exchanges, Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara said in an interview aired Friday.

BRUSSELS - A European Union arms embargo clamped on China in 1989 following the Tiananmen crackdown could be lifted in early 2011, Brussels sources told Thursday's edition of France's Le Figaro daily.

BEIJING - At least 21 people were killed -- including 14 schoolchildren -- and 25 injured in two car accidents in China on Monday, one of which involved over 100 vehicles, state press reported.

BEIJING - China's central bank on Saturday raised interest rates for the second time in three months as authorities ramped up efforts to curb borrowing, rein in property prices and tame inflation.
