At least 39 women were killed in honour-killing crimes in Balochistan this year.
According to a report, in the last three years 149, men and women have been killed in honour-killing crimes in the province.
In Balochistan honour-killing is called Siyah kari, in Sindh, it is called Karo Kari, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it is called Toor Tura and in Punjab Kala Kali.
Even today, the educated families sometimes engage in such crimes.
In October this year, the parliament approved bills aimed at the prevention of honour killings in the country, removing a loophole allowing killers to walk free after being pardoned by family members.
The bill for the prevention of honour killings stated an honour killing convict would at least be handed life in prison.
Earlier this year, a Pakistani social media star Qandeel Baloch was also allegedly murdered by her brother in one such incident of honour killing. Her killing left many in shock and drew severe criticism of the authorities.
Qandeel’s killing followed another murder of a British-Pakistani wife, Samia Shahid, in Jhelum, again in the name of ‘honour’.
