Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Thursday informed the Senate that the Cabinet Division had never been the custodian of the Abbottabad Commission Report.
To various questions during question hour, the minister said that the report had been directly sent to the then Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani by the commission.
He said the incident occurred in May 2011 and the former government was responsible for the report. He said the Cabinet Division had nothing to do with the report.
Meanwhile, to a calling attention notice regarding process of delimitation of constituencies underway in the country for the upcoming local government elections in the absence of new population census, he said no census had been carried out since 1998 although it was due in 2008.
The minister said it was a very valid calling notice and should be implemented. The country’s population has been increased and new census was need of the hour.
He said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has also sent a letter to the prime minister in this regard.
The minister said that delimitation for national and provincial constituencies was duty of the ECP, while in case of local bodies elections, the respective provincial governments were responsible.
