The Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production has decided to hold a public hearing on the Abbottabad incident and the Abbottabad Commission report after Eidul Fitr.

The in-camera meeting of the committee was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Mushahid Hussain Syed in the Parliament House. However, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Senator Muhammad Khan Sherani did not attend the meeting.

Former ambassador Aashraf Jahangir Qazi gave a detailed briefing to the attendees.

Later, talking to reporters, Mushahid said the committee had described the leaking of the report as a vital national issue and demanded the government make the report public besides presenting it in parliament.

“The committee also demanded that the 40-page confessional note given by Qazi be also made part of the report and the recommendations given therein be made part of the national policy,” Mushahid said.

He said the committee had decided to hold a public hearing on the matters of national importance including the Abbottabad incident and the commission’s report.

“Opinion of the experts with reference to these incidents will be heard in the public hearing.”
