KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday sought arguments on a plea against the sealing of a private restaurant — Arizona Grill — after the death of two children in Clifton until January 30.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard the plea and sought a reply from the deputy attorney general.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the restaurant and warehouse are under the authority of the cantonment.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) Sabteen Mahmood replied that provincial departments could not be stopped from taking action in the remits of cantonment because provincial laws apply in all parts of the province.

The bench asked if the case against the owner of the restaurant was over to which the owner’s counsel told the court that the victim family and the restaurant owner had reached a compromise.

The AAG said that the case is not related to the sealing of the warehouse.

A lawyer of the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) said that the department could take action anywhere in the province.

The court, later, adjourned hearing until January 30.
