KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday stopped Rangers’ prosecutor from giving arguments in a plea against conviction.

An SHC bench headed by Justice Aftab Ali Gorar was hearing the plea filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Nadeem Zafar against the conviction awarded to him. The bench stopped Rangers’ prosecutor from submitting arguments on the plea.

The bench remarked that it is the order of Supreme Court that none of private advocates would represent the government.

Prosecutor told the court that he had been assigned to follow this case.

To which, the bench replied that it does not matter that who assigned you. “We will only follow the Supreme Court’s orders and no one is superior to the apex court,” Justice Gorar said.

The bench asked the prosecutor if he wants to help state counsel in this case. “You will not be allowed for arguments but you can only help the state prosecutor,” Justice Gorar remarked.

The judge, later, adjourned the court since next hearing.
