A judicial magistrate in Lahore cantonment on Thursday denied granting physical remand to police of a blind boy allegedly involved in motorcycle theft and also ordered the quashing of the FIR. The magistrate, Qaiser Imam, reprimanded Investigating Officer Mushtaq Ahmad (sub inspector) of South Cantonment Police Station and asked him, “Can a blind man steal a motorcycle?” The officer had no answer to defend his position.
Advocate Fayaz Ahmad Mehar informed the court on behalf of his client Muhammad Ali that the accused was blind by birth. Rather Ali’s whole family was blind, he added. He said the police implicated Ali in a motorcycle theft FIR registered by CIA 16 months ago.
The magistrate took serious notice of the arrest of the blind boy and observed that police implicated an innocent man to cover up its inefficiency. He exonerated the accused from the charges and ordered police to quash the FIR.
