Former national team player Marina Iqbal has become Pakistan’s first female cricket commentator. She was a part of the commentary team during the Pakistan-Australia women cricket series held in Malaysia. Iqbal was a part of the national team from 2009 to 2015.
Talking to media, Iqbal said that she became a cricketer after watching Imran Khan’s victory speech at the 1992 World Cup. “I always wanted to be a commentator and now I think I have opened a new door for girls in Pakistan,” she said.
Praising the development, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari tweeted: “Great to see our women moving forward decisively in the world of sports! Well done #MarinaIqbal.”
