NEW YORK: Amidst the contentious ‘Burn The Tricolor’ campaign launched by the pro Khalistan group, the micro blogging site, at the behest of the Indian Government, has suspended the Twitter accounts of the advocacy group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) along with the accounts of its legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and Referendum 2020 campaigners Avtar Singh Pannun, Jagjeet Singh and Rana Singh.

Since the launch of campaign to burn the Indian flag ahead of January 26 Republic Day Celebrations, hundreds of videos of tricolor burning by the Sikh activists from across world were posted on the Twitter.

December 19th correspondence from Twitter to attorney Pannun warned that “We are writing to inform you that Twitter has received official correspondence regarding your Twitter account, @SFJ_Lawyer.

The correspondence claims that your account, is in violation of Indian law. Please note we may be obligated to take action regarding the content identified in the complaint in the future”.

Citing the ongoing independence Referendum campaigns on twitter by Catalonia and Kurdistan activists, SFJ legal advisor attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun stated that “it is very clear that Twitter is appeasing India by selectively suspending the accounts associated with Sikh Referendum 2020 campaign to secure more business from Modi government”.

SFJ in its London Declaration, has announced to hold the first ever non-binding referendum among the global Sikh community on the question of secession from India and reestablishing Punjab as an independent country.

In November 2020, SFJ announced to hold the polling for referendum the polling will be held in major cities of North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Kenya and the Middle Eastern Countries and Indian governed Punjab.
