ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) pathology laboratory counter has allegedly been looting the patients as the laboratory is being run through students.

Sources at the hospital stated that laboratory students who belonged to the operation theatre were allegedly taking briberies from poor patients who come for medical tests.

Moreover, the laboratory can test any number of samples in a day and yet the student doctors refer 60 per cent of the patient needing a test to private laboratories.

Sources stated that the laboratory’s counter no 8 was looting the patients in the name of medical tests. A student named Faizan was performing duty in the laboratory with the connivance of a chief technician instead of Ahsan Zadi who was the real employ.

Sources stated that Faizan was doing a course of X-Ray technician and further disclosed that medical technologist Shafiq has also come on deputation from Karachi.

On the other and the number of tests referred by in-house doctors to the pathology laboratory had been declining. It is worth mentioning here that the medical institute’s pathology lab has top-of-the-line equipment.
