SADIQABAD: Fire was extinguished hours after a gas pipeline caught fire in the Bhong area of Sadiqabad during the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to the district police officer (DPO), no lives were lost in the incident.
Earlier, affected gas pipeline segment of diameter 36 inches was isolated and an emergency was declared. The officials of the Sui Gas Company disconnected the supply of gas to the area in a bid to prevent any further damage soon after the explosion.
Bhong, Sui, Uch Sharif and Multan compressor stations were shut down whereas local authorities asked the residents of nearby areas to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
Heavy contingents of Rangers and police also arrived at the scene. It was reported that it took four fire brigades and water bowsers to bring the fire under control.
Repair work on the damaged section of the pipeline was underway till the filing of this report.
