ISLAMABAD: Expressing disappointment over the performance of Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council (OPAC), Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari Tuesday said the government was planning to revamp the body and bring down the strength of its members from 160 to 50.

OPAC was constituted for effective communication with Pakistani expats two years ago.

“We are planning to bring down the number of its members to 50 to make it a more efficient body,” Zulfi said in an interview to APP.

He said they would hire and keep intact only those workers who belonged to three categories, including successful sociable businessmen, professionals and social workers; regretting that the body did nothing significant for the welfare of expatriates.

“I am here to make it work rather than hiring more and more people. The more the members, the more the opinions,” he said, adding the council could not work efficiently with an influx of opinions.

Zulfi further said the previous government was responsible for OPAC’s poor performance.
