The federal cabinet on Wednesday decided to appoint a judicial commission, as promised in the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package, to probe the murder of Baloch tribal chief Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti under the chairmanship of a sitting Supreme Court judge.
This was stated by Information Minister Firdos Ashiq Awan in a briefing for the media after the cabinet meeting in Quetta.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Provincial Information Minister Yunis Mullazai were also present.
Firdous said the federal government had fulfilled its promise to probe into the murder of Akbar Khan Bugti.
She said the cabinet meeting, chaired by the prime minister, decided to appoint a judicial commission that would be headed by a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The minister said the government would bring the facts of the murder before the people.
The information minister denied that the commission was proposed to divert attention from the process initiated by the Balochistan High Court, which took notice of the failure of police and law enforcement agencies to make progress into the case.
She said the PPP government had no ulterior motives, rather it wanted to bring facts before the public.
She said employment for Baloch youth was a priority and the prime minister, keeping in view the prevalent situation in Balochistan, had decided to lift the ban on employment in federal departments.
Firdous said the federal government would give relaxation in jobs criteria and there were some 6,700 vacancies from grade 1 to 20 in various federal departments exclusively for Balochistan. She said the prime minister also decided to issue directives for interview and test to be conducted in Quetta instead of Islamabad to save the candidates from financial burden.
