Sahib-e-Asra, daughter of an Imam Masjid, has become the fastest female athlete of Pakistan.

In a rather inspirational story, Asra broke all social barriers and reached the top national level through her hard work and support from the family.

“I started my running career from a government school and competed at district, division and provincial level,” Asra said in a video, adding that then she started her national career and became the fastest woman of the country.

“I have given best times in running in Pakistan after ten years,” she stated.

Talking about facilities and government support, the athlete said that they don’t have proper training facilities, coaching standards or government support as compared to other countries.

“Even India and Bangladesh are way ahead of us in sports facilities,” she added.

Owing to the support from her father, Asra said that people criticised her father for giving her permission for sports but he stood firm.

“I told him that I want to do something for my country and he fully supported me,” she stated.

Meanwhile, her father, Qari Alam Khan, said that he came to know about his daughter’s athletic activities from school when her teachers told him that Asra is a very good athlete and she should compete at a higher level.

“I did not stop her and supported her and now she is a national champion,” Khan said.

He also criticised the government for not providing basic facilities and deserved recognition to athletes.

“The government has not given these athletes their deserving rewards,” he said.

“I am proud of my daughter as much as I am proud of my son,” he asserted.
