LAHORE: Punjab Minister Aleem Khan has said that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) which historically governed Sindh would meet the same fate as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which historically ruled in Punjab, adding that each province would be cleansed of corruption.
He was speaking to a few delegations at his office on Sunday.
The PTI leader stated that the looters of Sindh would not be let off from their accountability as neither of PPP President Asif Ali Zardari’s ‘Sindh card’ or sympathy politics would work anymore.
He said that this could be proved by observing that the PPP was acting dodgy. “Rather than giving answers on the JIT findings they are hiding away,” he said.
In response to the PPP’s allegations regarding the premier’s sister Aleema Khan’s property in Dubai, Aleem Khan said that PPP leaders are habitual mudslingers who have and will further be exposed in front of the people of Pakistan.
Further, he took a swipe at Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif, saying that the PML-N leader should be happy that his ‘Ali baba and forty thieves’ are being held accountable. “The Sharif family should prepare a barrack for Zardari now,” he remarked.
THE CASE:
The case was initially registered in 2015 against former Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSE) chairman Hussain Lawai, who is widely believed to be close to former president Zardari.
The FIA is now investigating 32 people in relation to money laundering from fictitious accounts, including Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur.
In July, Lawai was arrested in connection with the probe along with Anwar Majeed, and his son, Abdul Ghani Majeed, were also arrested by the FIA. Lawai, Majeed and his son remain under custody for interrogation.
Investigations so far have revealed that several ‘benaami’ accounts at some private banks were opened in 2013, 2014 and 2015 from where transactions worth billions of rupees were made.
The amount, according to the FIA, is said to be black money gathered from various kickbacks, commissions and bribes.
