ISLAMABAD: The registration of the cellular devices with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for the mobile users was extended to January 15 on Saturday.
Illegal, smuggled and unregistered devices will not work after January 15, according to the notification issued by the PTA.
For registration of your cellular device, send your IMEI number, which can be checked by dialing *#06#, via SMS to 8484. Upon sending this to PTA, it will send a reply confirming whether your phone is compliant.
The government had decided to crack down against smugglers of mobile phones in Pakistan.
This was announced by Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry in October.
He had said the government had devised a framework to block illegal imports of mobile phones by the end of this year.
