–CAA’s counsel tells court many staff members’ degrees are no longer valid
LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to verify the degrees of all pilots and members of cabin crew by December 28.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, heard a case pertaining to the allegations of fake degrees held by pilots of different airlines.
During the hearing, CAA’s counsel informed the court that the degrees of many staff members were no longer valid. Responding, the top judge ordered CAA to remove all such individuals from their posts.
In January, the chief justice had taken notice of the alleged appointment of pilots holding fake qualifications. The chief justice had directed the CAA to submit a report in this regard.
He had also summoned details of the activities of private planes and jets on the airports during the last fifteen days from the CAA director general.
The DG of the civil aviation was asked to submit the report on January 27 at the apex court’s Karachi Registry. However, the official sought more time to compile the report.
