ISLAMABAD: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Sunday arranged and hosted an event to show solidarity with the university’s Christian employees.

The event was largely attended by the employees and their family members.

Congratulating them on Christmas, Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum appreciated the role of the minority community in the country’s socio-economic development.

He said that Muslims fully share the joy and happiness of their Christian brothers and sisters. “It is a matter of great pleasure that we all enjoy equal rights and privileges in the Pakistani society,” he added.

The event was marked with the cutting of a Christmas cake and distribution of sweets. The ceremony was arranged by the Employees Welfare Association (EWA) in collaboration with the Project Directorate.

A Christmas tree was also decorated in the premises of the university as a symbol of the Christian community’s dignified and dedicated role in Pakistan’s national development.
