ISLAMABAD: Realising the ill effects of drug use, students from various educational institutions gathered to take an oath to remain away from narcotics and vowed to struggle for the country’s bright future in a police ceremony on Thursday.
The oaths were taken during a Road Safety Quiz Competition organised by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP).
The oath was formally administered by Security Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Waqar Ahmed Chohan while Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar, Traffic senior superintendent of police (SSP) and other senior police officials were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said that a campaign to make Islamabad a `drug-free’ city would begin soon and strict action would be taken against drug users and those involved in drug pushing activities.
He said that it was a blessing for us that Almighty Allah has created us in the Ummah of Holy Prophet (PBUH) and we have to prove ourselves as good human beings through noble deeds. He said that the use of drugs leads towards destruction and collective efforts were needed to make society free from this menace.
The IGP said that no one would be spared if found involved in anything to do with drugs.
For a bright and secure life, he also urged the students to keep working hard and get educated with complete devotion besides, cooperating with the police to make Pakistan’s society as an example for others.
“Education is the key to success and every challenge can be countered with hard work, a sincere approach in life and abstinence from drugs,” he added.
The Islamabad police chief said that enhanced cooperation between police and public was crucial for effective policing and ITP welcomes suggestions from citizens to bring improvement in the city’s traffic affairs. He said that a disciplined traffic system reflects the discipline in society and ITP was determined to ensure harmony.
Aamir Zulfiqar said that those involved in one-wheeling or road stunts should think about their parents and follow traffic rules. He appealed to parents for keeping a check on the activities of their children and discouraging amateur driving.
Speaking on the occasion, the SSP Farrukh Rasheed said that that ITP was doing its best for a safer road environment in the Capital and has involved the community in its affairs. “ITP teams are visiting educational institutions to create traffic awareness and several students have joined ITP as traffic volunteers,” he said.
He said that ITP had also arranged internships for 1,100 students and efforts to involve young people in ensuring traffic discipline in the city were being made as well.
Later, the IGP Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar distributed prizes among students who got distinction in the Road Safety Quiz Competition.
