ISLAMABAD: The Senate Committee on Interior on Thursday sought a report from the Interior Ministry regarding the consumption of ‘ice meth’ drug by female students at local schools.

Crystal methamphetamine, also called ice, is a drug which consists of colourless crystals of varying sizes and shapes that are smoked and injected into one’s body.

According to details, the committee deliberated over the issue of a ‘new’ drug addiction – ice meth/ crystal drug – as Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi had earlier pointed out that many female students were addicted to it.

On December 18, he had revealed that 75% of female students and 45% of male students from well-known educational institutions in the federal capital were found to be taking the drug.

The committee expressed serious concerns over his statement and Senator Javed Abbasi questioned the Interior Ministry how so many female students became addicted to the drug.

The Senate committee then sought a report on the matter.

It may be recalled that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had nabbed a drugs supplier from city’s Sitara Market a few days back. As per details, drugs’ peddler, Muhammad Ilyas, who was supplying contraband items in the educational institutes of the federal capital, was arrested by ANF’s intelligence team

“Muhammad Ilyas was a supplier of contraband items in Islamabad’s educational institutes, adding that the team also confiscated contraband items worth Rs 15million,” ANF officials told media.
