KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday ordered the Sindh government to relocate the National
Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), currently housed in the historical Hindu Gymkhana building.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed, while hearing the case at the top court’s Karachi registry, inquired why the provincial government had offered no explanation for NAPA’s presence at the historical building, adding that NAPA should be shifted to the Sindh Chief Minister (CM) House rather than making use of the heritage site.

Sindh additional advocate-general (AAG) said that the Sindh government did not have any space for its own offices.

The court further inquired of the steps being taken by the Sindh government to shift NAPA from the Hindu Gymkhana premises. “The government will start constructing commercial plazas everywhere if things continue this way,” said Justice Gulzar Ahmed.

He ordered the provincial administration government to vacate its existing place of stay and shift NAPA to a different location.

Directing for the submission of a reply on the matter, the hearing was adjourned to a later date.
