Lahore Customs earns over Rs16b

Lahore Model Customs Collectorate has surpassed the annual target of Rs15.886 billion by Rs369.22 million. The Collectorate has earned Rs16.255 billion during the year 2010-11 whereas its target was Rs15.886 billion, said a spokesman here on Monday.
The net collection of duties and taxes during 2010-2011 stood at Rs52.8 billion as compared to Rs43.4 billion during the previous financial year which is an increase of two per cent. The reason for this outstanding performance, said collector of customs Khawaja Umar, was effective monitoring by his team of officers. The measures taken by the Collectorate included liquidation of stuck up revenue, enhancement of securities and auction of overstayed goods and vehicles against which a significant amount of Rs4.12 billion was realized during the year.
The collection of revenue through dry ports and POL Machikay was Rs12.86 billion – an increase of 30.79 per cent when compared to the previous fiscal year. Similarly the revenue collected during the current financial year at AFU and other stations was Rs3.62 billion, which is an increase of 16.22 per cent compared to the previous year. The remarkable enhance in exchequer was largely due to strict measures taken for the prevention of leakage of revenue.
