LAHORE: While hearing a petition to conserve water, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday imposed a ban on the use of running water from hosepipes to wash cars.
The petition had been filed by Haroon Farooq who had urged the court to put checks on the wastage of water.
In a written order, LHC judge Justice Shahid Karim directed the Lahore Development Authority and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to stop local service stations from using hosepipes to wash cars and instead use water buckets.
These orders are not restricted to the service stations but also apply to households with cars. The court has also summoned a report from different housing authorities in the next hearing.
Calling for an awareness campaign on the ban of hosepipes in washing cars, the court has asked the provincial government to inform of measures taken in this regard.
