The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Accounts Committee has ordered the recovery of Rs 35.4 million from officials of the Health Department.
The decision was made in a meeting of the KP PAC that met with Speaker Kiramatullah Khan Chagharmati in the chair in Abbottabad.
According to an official handout, the meeting was attended by PPP’s Abdul Akbar Khan and Muhammad Zamin Khan, PML-N’s Pir Sabir Shah, ANP’s Saqibullah Khan Chamkani and Mukhtiar Ali Khan advocate.
The PAC examined the audit reports of Hayatabad Medical Complex, Khyber Teaching Hospitals, Khyber College of Dentistry, Police Hospital, Medical College Saidu Sharif and Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.
The PAC decided to handover the matter of the purchase of expired medicine by Hayatabad Medical College in the year 2004-05 to a sub-committee for further investigation.
The PAC also showed concern over the theft of machinery of Khyber Teaching Hospital in 2004-05 and also ordered the recovery from the staff concerned, besides conducting further inquiry.
The PAC also expressed anguish over financial irregularities and called the financial statement against the prescribed format and directed for the presentation of the same in proper format.
The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the standard working paper of Ayub Teaching Complex and directed its presentation in the next meeting through proper procedure, warning that the committee would not tolerate such attitude in the future.
The PAC also discussed in detail the performance of provincial Health Department and took a number of decisions.
Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ordered a detailed probe into the accounts of all non-governmental organisations working in the health and education sectors after successfully recovering Rs 12 million misappropriated in Khyber Agency.
An official handout said NAB KP had confirmed the recovery of Rs 12 million from the officers and officials of Academy for Education Development.
It said the academy officers were found guilty of misappropriating the amount allocated by USAID for flood victims in Khyber Agency.
It said the academy invited tenders for purchase of living kits and edible items for flood victims in August and September, but the officials issued the tender to the highest bidder, misappropriating Rs 12 million.
The NAB initiated an investigation and the Academy for Education Development agreed to return the misappropriated amount.
In the light of fruitful outcomes of NAB investigations, the chairman ordered a detailed inquiry against all NGOs working in the health and education sectors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
