KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Friday informed the consumers that there is a “possibility” of gas supply improving in the next two days.
According to the SSGC spokesperson, “Gas supply from the fielders has become better with the supply improving in the next two days.”
“CNG stations will be opened after determining the gas pressure,” the spokesperson further said.
Earlier, SSGC had announced that it will discontinue gas supply for an indefinite period of time. In reaction, CNG associations threatened to block Shahrah-e-Faisal until supply is resumed.
This had painted a difficult situation for commuters who depend on public transport to travel in the city. When questioned if there was any fuel alternative, a Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) representative told reporters that there was none at all of the private bus and wagon owners had shifted to gas cylinders upon court orders.
SSGC said that it was facing an acute shortage of gas and low pressure in the system, which was affecting adequate supply to domestic and commercial sectors.
Moreover, CNG Association Chairman Ghayas Paracha said that “CNG stations can be opened by tomorrow afternoon, however, the final decision will be made after looking at the gas pressure”.
In addition to that, the residents continued to suffer on Friday as the CNG crisis entered its sixth day, disrupting public transport and daily routine.
Supply of gas to CNG stations remained suspended, posing difficulties for the residents as public transport owners continued their strike, leaving commuters stranded on bus stops.
