BAP’s Rasheed wins PB-47 Kech by-polls: unofficial result

QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) candidate Abdul Rasheed has won the by-election in PB-47, Kech-II, according to unofficial results on Friday.

According to reports, Rasheed bagged 7,088 votes, defeating Balochistan National Party-Mengal’s (BNP-M) Jameel Dashti, who secured 5,758 votes. National Party’s Fida Hussain Dashti came in third with 3,055 votes.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared all 60 polling stations in the constituency extremely sensitive and had deployed Levies and Frontier Corps personnel across the constituency.

A public holiday was also declared in Kech district by the provincial government.

During the 2018 general election, BAP’s Abdul Rauf Rind had emerged as the successful candidate on the seat. However, ECP had declared the election null and void as Rind was found to be a dual national.
